미국 국무장관 블링컨 방한 규탄한다
-이스라엘의 학살 공범 미국 정부는 민주주의 입에 올릴 자격 없다

3월 18일 미국 국무장관 블링컨이 서울에서 열리는 제3차 민주주의 정상회의에 참가하기 위해 방한했다.

‘민주주의 정상회의’는 2021년 미국 바이든 정부가 중국·러시아와의 경쟁에 협조할 국가들을 규합하고자 만든 것이다.

지금 미국은 우크라이나 전쟁과 이스라엘-팔레스타인 전쟁으로 대중국 경쟁에 차질이 생겼다. 이런 상황에서 미국은 아시아-태평양 지역에서 한국 등 동맹국들에게 자신의 건재함을 과시하고 협력을 이끌어낼 필요가 있다. 블링컨은 바로 그런 일을 하기 위해 방한한 것이다.

지난 2월 26일 유리 김 미국 국무부 유럽·유라시아 담당 수석 부차관보는 “한국은 우크라이나에 정치적 지지뿐만 아니라 실질적인 방어 지원을 제공했으며, 그런 물자 지원을 더 보고 싶다”고 말했다. 블링컨도 이번 방한에서 한국 정부에게 우크라이나 전쟁 지원을 요구할 수 있다.

윤석열 정부는 한미일 안보 동맹 강화와 우크라이나 전쟁 지원 등 미국의 패권 전략에 적극 협력하고 있다. 윤석열 정부와 블링컨의 만남은 한반도의 불안정을 더욱 키우는 데 일조할 것이다.

한편, 그 이름과 달리 ‘민주주의 정상회의’는 민주주의와 아무런 관련이 없다.

정부 비판 목소리를 내는 사람들의 입을 틀어막고 사지를 들어 쫓아낼 뿐 아니라 언론의 자유까지 공격하려 드는 윤석열 정부가 ‘민주주의’ 회의를 개최하는 것부터 우스운 일이다.

바이든 정부도 자신의 패권 전략에 도움이 된다면 민주주의와 거리가 먼 지도자들도 기꺼이 초청했다.

그간 민주주의 정상회의에는 이탈리아의 파시스트 총리 조르자 멜로니, 인도의 극우 총리 모디, 폴란드의 극우 대통령 안제이 두다, 필리핀의 악명 높은 독재자 마르코스의 아들이기도 한 필리핀 대통령 마르코스 주니어가 초청됐다. 팔레스타인인들을 억압∙학대해 온 이스라엘도 초청됐었다.

역사를 돌아보더라도 미국 정부는 민주주의 맹주를 자처할 자격이 없다.

미국 정부는 이승만, 박정희, 전두환, 노태우 독재 정권을 모두 후원했다. 전두환 정권의 광주항쟁 학살 진압을 눈감아 주기도 했다. 1973년 칠레에서 피노체트 군부가 선출된 살바도르 아옌데 정부를 쿠데타로 무너뜨리는 것을 미국 정부가 지원했다. 2000년대 들어서는 스스로 아프가니스탄과 이라크를 침공해 잔혹한 학살과 파괴를 자행했다.

추악한 위선

무엇보다 지금 미국 정부는 팔레스타인인을 3만 1천명 이상 인종 학살해온 이스라엘을 물심양면 지원하고 있다.

바이든 정부는 그간 유엔에서 휴전 제안을 모두 반대해 왔고, 이스라엘의 자위권 운운하면서 자금과 무기 지원을 중단하지 않아 왔다.

〈워싱턴포스트〉는 지난해 10월 7일 이후 미국 정부가 비공식적으로 이스라엘에 무기를 판매한 건수가 100건 이상이라고 보도했다. 바이든은 의회를 우회하며 이를 승인했다.

팔레스타인 가자지구 주민 4명 중 1명이 아사 위기에 처하며 이스라엘에 대한 국제적 비난이 들끓자, 바이든 정부는 공중 수송기를 이용해 가자지구에 구호품을 떨어뜨리며 생색을 내고 있다.

그러나 지금의 인도적 위기 상황에서 미국 정부가 공중 투하하는 구호품의 양은 턱없이 부족해 가자지구 주민들을 모욕하는 것이나 다름없다. 낙하산 오작동으로 추락하는 구호품에 맞아 사망하는 피난민들마저 생겼다. 무엇보다 가자지구 주민들 머리 위로 쏟아지는 폭격기와 폭탄의 상당수가 바로 미국이 지원한 것이다.

바이든은 가자지구에 구호품 물품을 반입하기 위한 항구를 건설하겠다는 말도 했다.

그러나 정말 바이든이 가자지구 주민들을 걱정한다면 가자지구 봉쇄를 해제하라고 이스라엘을 압박하면 된다. 또는 이스라엘에 대한 지원을 끊으면 된다.

미국 정부에게는 그럴 힘이 있지만, 바이든은 그러지 않고 있다.

바이든이 진정 우려하는 것은 이스라엘이 훨씬 더 막대한 학살을 저지르면 그 반감으로 중동에서 반란이 촉발돼 미국의 이해관계를 위협할 수 있다는 것이다.

미국 국무장관 앤터니 블링컨은 바이든 정부를 대표해 전쟁 초기부터 중동과 동맹국들을 돌아다니며 이스라엘의 팔레스타인 공격을 정치적∙외교적으로 뒷받침해 왔다. 블링컨은 ‘하마스를 제거할 때까지 전쟁을 지속해야 한다’고 주장한 바 있다. 블링컨의 손에도 가자지구 주민들의 피가 묻어 있다.

인종 학살 공범 블링컨은 민주주의를 입에 올릴 자격 없다. 블링컨의 방한을 규탄한다.

No to Blinken’s visit to Korea!

– The U.S. state is an accomplice with Israeli genocide. It has no right to speak of democracy.

On March 18, U.S. Secretary of State Blinken visited Korea to attend the third Summit for Democracy being held in Seoul.

Biden started “Summit for Democracy” in 2021 to gather states willing to cooperate in competition with China and Russia.

Currently, the U.S. is facing difficulties in its competition with China, due to the war in Ukraine and Israeli genocide on Gaza. In such circumstances, it needs to demonstrate its power to its allies in the Asia-Pacific region, i.e. South Korea, and gain their support. Blinken’s visit is precisely aimed at fulfilling it.

On February 26, Yuri Kim, the principal deputy assistant secretary for European and Eurasian affairs with the U.S. State Department, stated, “We’ve seen the ROK [South Korea] provide Ukraine with not just political support but actual defense support, and we’d like to see more of those materials going over to Ukraine.” Blinken may also demand more support for the war in Ukraine during this visit to Korea.

The Yoon Suk-yeol government actively supports the United States’ strategy to cement its hegemony, strengthen the alliance among the U.S., Japan, and South Korea, and the war in Ukraine. The meeting between Yoon Suk-yeol government and Blinken will further exacerbate instability on Korean Peninsula.

Meanwhile, despite the name “Summit for Democracy”, it has nothing to do with democracy. It’s ironic that Yoon Suk-yeol, who represses the opposition to the administraion and violates freedom of speech, is hosting a summit for “democracy”. Even leaders who have nothing to do with democracy are invited, if they could help the U.S..

Looking back on history, the U.S. government has no right to claim itself as the champion of democracy.

The U.S. government supported dictators like Rhee Syngman, Park Chung-hee, Chun Doo-hwan, and Noh Tae-woo. It even turned a blind eye to the massacre during the Gwangju Uprising, committed by Chun Doo-hwan regime. In 1973, the U.S. government supported the overthrow of Salvador Allende government and supported Pinochet military dictatorship in Chile. In the 2000s, the U.S. itself invaded Afghanistan and Iraq, committing brutal massacres and destruction.

Flagrant hypocrisy

Above all, the current president Biden is a staunch defender of Israeli genocide on Palestinians.

The U.S. has been opposing any call for ceasefire at the UN Security Council, and keeps sending its financial and military support to Israel while defending ‘Israeli right to self-defense’.

The Washington Post reported that the US state has made more than 100 separate military sales to Israel since 7 October. Biden bypassed Congress to approve these sales.

As the voice of the world against Israel rises, especially when one in four people of Gaza is facing a humanitarian crisis, The US is trying to save face by dropping aid from aircraft.

However, not only is the amount woefully insufficient, but it also amounts to nothing more than a humiliation of Gazans. People were even killed by an aid drop after a pallet’s parachute malfunctioned. On top of that, US-supplied jets use US-supplied bombs and missiles to blast the same starving people.

Biden said that he wants the US military to build a temporary pier in Gaza to hand starving Palestinians aid.

However, Biden could get aid into Gaza immediately if he insisted that Israel should send aid trucks through the border.

Biden has the power to do so, but he is not taking such actions.

What Biden is worried about is whether an even bigger bloodbath in Gaza will mean more revolt in the Middle East that could threaten US imperialist interests.

Since the beginning of the war, Blinken, the representative of the Biden administration, has been traveling Middle East and the U.S. allies to gain support Israeli genocide on Palestinians. Blinken argued that the war should continue until Hamas is eliminated, The blood of palestinians is on his hand too.

Blinken is one of the accomplice with Israeli genocide. He has no right to speak of democracy. No to Blinken’s visit to Korea!
