이스라엘의 인종 학살에 반대하고
팔레스타인인들과 연대하는
: 1월 13일 ‘국제 행동의 날’에 모이자!

이번 주 토요일 1월 13일은 팔레스타인인들과 연대하는 ‘국제 행동의 날’이다.

이스라엘의 인종 학살과 팔레스타인 점령을 반대하는 전 세계 팔레스타인 연대 국제 공동 행동이다.

이날 미국, 영국, 독일 등 세계 곳곳에서 시위와 행진이 열릴 예정이다. 한국에서는 오후 2시 주한 이스라엘 대사관 인근에서 열린다. 청년학생들도 ’국제 행동의 날’에 함께하자!

끔찍한 인종 학살 이어가는 이스라엘

지난 해 10월 이후 지금까지 이스라엘은 2만 3000명이 넘는 팔레스타인인들을 죽였다. 대부분이 민간인이고, 그 중 최소 9000명은 어린아이다. 이스라엘은 크리스마스 이브에도 난민 캠프를 폭격해 수백 명을 살해했다. 고의적 폭격 대상이 됐던 의료 시설은 부상자만이 아니라 전염병 창궐에도 속수무책인 상황이다. 유엔 팔레스타인 난민 구호 기구(UNRWA)는 가자지구 주민 230만 명 중 40퍼센트가 “기근 위험 상태”라고 밝혔다.

이 모든 일은 이스라엘군이 고의로 조장한 인도적 위기다. 이스라엘 정부 관료들은 팔레스타인인들을 ‘인종 청소’하려는 의도를 숨기지 않는다.

이스라엘의 억압, 팔레스타인의 저항의 역사

팔레스타인인들에 대한 억압은 지난 해 10월 7일 이후 시작된 것이 아니다. 1948년 이스라엘은 서구 제국주의의 지원을 받아 팔레스타인인 수십만 명을 학살하고 집과 토지를 강제로 빼앗아 건국됐다. 이후 75년 넘게 팔레스타인을 강제 점령하고 있는 이스라엘은 그땅을 완전히 독차지하려고 끝없는 학살과 억압을 자행해 왔다. 이유 없는 처벌, 재판 없는 구금과 고문은 일상이 되었다. 이런 죄악은 ‘식민 정착자 국가’로서의 성격에서 비롯한다.

하지만 억압은 저항을 낳기 마련이다. 어머니, 아버지, 형제자매, 친구, 동네 이웃, 자신마저 언제 살해될지 모르는 사람들이 이스라엘 국가에 맞서 싸우는 것은 너무나 정당하다. 팔레스타인인들은 저항할 권리가 있다.

학살을 지원하는 미국과 서방

미국은 “전쟁이 확대되는 것을 원치 않는다”고 말하지만, 실제론 이스라엘을 비호하고 있다.

바이든 정부는 지난해 12월 한 달 사이에만 두 번이나 의회 검토를 우회해 이스라엘에 무기 판매를 승인했다. 민간인 살해를 최소화하라는 미국의 “압박”은 공문구에 불과한 것이다.

이스라엘은 전쟁 시작 후 레바논 남부의 도시와 마을도 계속 포격하고 있다. 1월 2일엔 레바논 수도 베이루트에서 팔레스타인 저항 지도자들을 암살했다.

홍해 위기에 대해서도 미국과 서방은 확전으로 나아갈 위험이 있다. 확전을 막기 위해 미국과 서방, 그리고 이스라엘을 막아내는 것이 매우 시급한 과제다.

인종 학살 정당화하는 주한 이스라엘 대사관

이스라엘은 추악한 전쟁 범죄를 감추고 정당화하려고 끔찍한 거짓말과 전쟁 프로파간다를 쏟아냈다. 한국에서는 주한 이스라엘 대사관이 그 일을 한다. 미국 백악관도 부인한 하마스-북한 연계설을 퍼트린 것도 주한 이스라엘 대사관이다. 이스라엘 대사관은 지난해 말 이른바 ‘서울 불바다’ 영상을 제작했다가 여론의 역풍을 맞았다. 이스라엘의 인종 학살을 정당화하려고 한국의 안보 불안을 조장하는 내용이었기 때문이다.

한편, 한국 정부는 이스라엘의 기술력을 한국의 제조 역량과 결합시키자고 한다. 이스라엘의 첨단 군사 기술은 팔레스타인인들을 대상으로 하는 ‘실험’ 속에서 발전해 왔다. 한국 정부가 이스라엘과 군사 기술 협력을 하는 것은 학살자들의 피 묻은 손을 잡은 것이다. 이런 협력에 반대해야 한다.

미국, 영국, 독일, 프랑스 등 전 세계에서 팔레스타인 사람들과 연대하는 집회가 수만에서 수십만 규모로 꾸준히 열리고 있다. 한국에서도 재한 팔레스타인인, 한국인, 아랍인 등 수백 명이 모이는 연대 집회가 매주 열리고 있다. 1월 13일 세계 곳곳에서 열릴 ‘국제 행동의 날’은 이스라엘과 미국에게 큰 정치적 압력을 줄 수 있다.

Oppose Israel’s genocide and stand in solidarity with Palestinians
Join the Global Day of Action on January 13th!

This Saturday, January 13, is the Global Day of Action in Solidarity with the Palestinian people.
It is a global action in solidarity with the Palestinians around the world against Israel’s genocide and occupation of Palestine.
Protests and marches will be held around the world, including the United States, United Kingdom, and Germany. In Korea, it will be held at 2 p.m. near the Israeli Embassy in Seoul. We call on youths and students to participate in the International Day of Action.

Israel continuing its horrific genocide

Since October last year, Israel has killed more than 23,000 Palestinians. Most are civilians, and at least 9,000 of them are children. Even on Christmas Eve, Israel bombed refugee camps, killing hundreds.
Medical facilities have been deliberately targeted, leaving not only the wounded but also an epidemic in their wake. The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said 40 percent of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents are “at risk of famine.”
All of this is a humanitarian crisis deliberately fomented by the Israeli military. Israeli government officials make no secret of their intention to “ethnically cleanse” Palestinians.

History of Israeli oppression and Palestinian resistance

The oppression of Palestinians did not begin on October 7th of last year. In 1948, Israel was founded with the support of Western imperialism after massacring hundreds of thousands of Palestinians and forcibly taking their homes and land. After more than 75 years since then, Israel’s forcible occupation of Palestine has resulted in endless massacres and oppression in an attempt to claim the land for its own. Punishment without cause, detention without trial, and torture have become a routine. These sins stem from its nature as a colonial settler state.
But oppression breeds resistance, and people who don’t know when their mothers, fathers, siblings, friends, neighbors, or even themselves will be killed are justified in their fight against the state of Israel. Palestinians have the right to resist.

The US and the West supporting the massacre

The US says it doesn’t want to “escalate the war,” but in reality, it’s backing Israel.
Twice in December of last year alone, the Biden administration authorized arms sales to Israel, bypassing Congress. US “pressure” to minimize civilian casualties is just a lip service.
Israel has also continued to shell cities and towns in southern Lebanon since the war began. On January 2, it assassinated Palestinian resistance leaders in the Lebanese capital, Beirut.
The Red Sea crisis also risks escalation for the United States and the West.
It is urgent to stop the US, the West, and Israel from escalating.

Israeli Embassy in South Korea aiding Israel’s genocide

Israel has spewed horrific lies and war propaganda to cover up and justify its ugly war crimes.
In South Korea, the Israeli Embassy does just that. It’s the same embassy that spread the Hamas-North Korea connection that even the White House has denied. Late last year, the embassy faced backlash for producing the so-called Seoul on Fire video. It was accused of stoking security fears in South Korea to justify Israeli genocide.
Meanwhile, South Korean government wants to combine Israeli technology with South Korean manufacturing capabilities. Israel’s advanced military technology has been developed through “experimentation” on Palestinians. South Korean government’s military-technical cooperation with Israel is holding the bloody hands of murderers. We must oppose this cooperation.

Rallies in solidarity with the Palestinians have been taking place around the world in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and elsewhere, with numbers ranging from tens to hundreds of thousands. Even in South Korea, solidarity protests are being held every week with hundreds of Palestinians, Koreans, Arabs, and others. The Global Day of Action, which will take place around the world on January 13, could put significant political pressure on Israel and the United States.
