홍익대학교 “주한 이스라엘 대사관은 왜 추방돼야 하는가” 토론회

11월 22일(수) 홍익대학교에서 “주한 이스라엘 대사관은 왜 추방돼야 하는가” 토론회를 진행했습니다!🇵🇸 여러 홍대 내·외국인이 참여해주셨는데요. 팔레스타인 연대의 마음을 나누며 토론을 진행했습니다.

발제는 팔레스타인 학생 룰라 @8ula 님과 중동 전문가 박이랑 @irang_jan.25 기자님께서 해주셨습니다. 통역에는 전문 통역가 천경록님이 수고해주셨습니다. 세 분께 감사드립니다. ☺️

팔레스타인 학생 룰라 @8ula 님은 발제에서 팔레스타인 억압의 역사와 오늘날의 저항, 한국에서 우리가 무엇을 할 수 있는지 등을 풍부하게 다뤄주셨습니다. 중동 전문가 박이랑 @irang_jan.25 기자님은 한국에서 “주한 이스라엘 대사관 추방”을 요구하는 것이 시온주의 국가 이스라엘의 본질을 폭로하는 효과적 수단이 될 수 있음을 강조했습니다.

이어서 청중 토론이 진행됐는데요. 한 미국 교환학생 참가자는 미국의 팔레스타인 연대 시위 규모에 비해 한국은 크지 않아서 단절된 기분이었는데, 이런 얘기를 들을 수 있는 자리가 있어서 너무 반갑다는 소감을 전해주셨습니다! ☺️

여러 질문들도 있었는데요. 팔레스타인 점령이 오일 머니와 관련 있다면 팔레스타인에 석유가 많은 것은 아닌데 왜 팔레스타인 점령이 계속되는 것인지, 미국은 왜 이스라엘을 후원하는 것인지, 한국 정부가 이 쟁점에 대해 별로 말하지 않는데 왜 그런 것인지, 4일간 교전 “일시 중지”한다는 기사를 봤는데 어떻게 봐야하는 것인지 등의 질문들이 있었습니다.
또, 시위나 BDS 운동 외에도 할 수 있는 팔레스타인 연대 활동은 무엇이 있을지 등 팔레스타인 연대 운동이 커지길 바라는 고민이 담긴 질문도 있었습니다.

이에 대해 발제자들의 답변은 토론을 더욱 풍성하게 해주었는데요. 룰라 @8ula 님은 팔레스타인 자체에 석유가 많지는 않지만 미국으로서는 중동 전체를 통제할 수 있는 경비견 구실이 필요하기 때문에 이스라엘을 후원하는 것이라는 점을 설명했습니다. 박이랑 @irang_jan.25 기자님은 한국 정부는 전에는 아랍 국가들과의 관계를 고려해 이스라엘과 교류를 별로 하지 않았지만 최근 교류를 늘리고 있고 이스라엘을 지지한다는 점, 이스라엘의 교전 “일시 중지”는 일시적일 뿐 아니라 믿을 수 없다는 답변을 주셨습니다. 그리고 두 발제자 모두 팔레스타인 연대 운동이 계속 커지는 것이 중요하다고 강조했습니다.

토론회가 끝난 후 참가자들은 팔레스타인 국기와 팻말을 들고 기념 사진을 촬영했습니다. 바로 내일! 토요일(11월 25일) 오후 2시에 주한 이스라엘 대사관 인근에서 10차 팔레스타인 연대 집회가 열리는데요.
한 참가자는 자신이 찾던 소식이 바로 이것이라며 반가워하기도 했습니다. 🇵🇸

이후에도 학내에서 팔레스타인에 연대하는 목소리가 더 커지고, 이어질 ‘주한 이스라엘 대사관 추방 캠페인’에 더 많은 학생들과 함께 할 수 있기를 바랍니다. ✊

세계 곳곳에서 팔레스타인에 연대하는 시위가 벌어지고 있는데요. 한국에서도 팔레스타인 연대 운동이 더욱 성장하기를 바랍니다!

On Wednesday, November 22nd, we had a meeting on “Why the Israeli Embassy Must Be Expelld from Korea” at Hongik University. Many Koreans and foreigners participated. We had a discussion while sharing our feelings of solidarity with Palestine.

The presentations were given by Palestinian student Rula @8ula and Middle East expert reporter Park Irang @irang_jan.25. Professional interpreter Cheon Gyeong-rok did a great job interpreting. Thank you to all three. ☺️

Palestinian student Rula @8ula richly covered the history of oppression in Palestine, today’s resistance, and what we can do in Korea in presentation. Reporter Park I-rang @irang_jan.25, a Middle East expert, emphasized that calling for “the expulsion of the Israeli embassy in Korea” from Korea could be an effective means of exposing the true nature of the Zionist state of Israel.

Next, an audience discussion took place. One American exchange student said that felt disconnected because Korea was not large compared to the scale of the Palestine solidarity protests in the United States, and that was very glad to have a place where could hear such stories! ☺️

There were also many questions. If the occupation of Palestine is related to oil money, why does the occupation of Palestine continue even though Palestine does not have a lot of oil? Why does the United States support Israel? Why does the Korean government not say much about this issue? How to view about 4-day war “temporary stop”.
There were also questions containing concerns about the hope that the Palestine solidarity movement would grow, such as what other Palestinian solidarity activities could be done other than protests or the BDS movement.

The presenters’ answers to this further enriched the discussion. Rula @8ula explained that although Palestine itself does not have much oil, the United States supports Israel because it needs a guard dog to control the entire Middle East. Reporter Park I-rang @irang_jan.25 said that the Korean government previously did not have much exchange with Israel considering its relations with Arab countries, but has recently increased exchange and supports Israel, and that Israel’s “pause” in engagement is not only temporary but trustworthy. And both presenters emphasized the importance of continuing to grow the Palestine solidarity movement.

After the discussion, participants took commemorative photos holding Palestinian flags and signs. Right tomorrow! The 10th Palestine Solidarity Rally will be held near the Israeli Embassy in Korea at 2 p.m. on Saturday (November 25). One participant was happy and said that this was exactly the news that was looking for. 🇵🇸

I hope that voices of solidarity with Palestine will grow louder on campus, and that more students will join in the ongoing ‘Campaign to Expel the Israeli Embassy in Korea’. ✊
