서울대학교 “주한 이스라엘 대사관은 왜 추방돼야 하는가” 토론회

11월 20일(월) 서울대학교에서 “주한 이스라엘 대사관은 왜 추방돼야 하는가” 토론회를 개최했습니다.🇵🇸 이번에도 많은 내·외국인이 참여해 연대의 마음을 나누고 진지한 토론을 이어갔습니다.

팔레스타인 학생 시마 @seemaaaaaaaaaa 님은 발제에서 팔레스타인 억압의 역사와 오늘날의 저항, 한국에서 우리가 무엇을 할 수 있는지 등을 풍부하게 다뤄주셨습니다. 중동 전문가 박이랑 @irang_jan.25 기자님은 한국에서 “주한 이스라엘 대사관 추방”을 요구하는 것이 시온주의 국가 이스라엘의 본질을 폭로하는 효과적 수단이 될 수 있음을 강조했습니다. 한-영 통역에는 전문 통역가 천경록님이 수고해주셨습니다.

청중 토론에서는 팔레스타인인에 대한 인종청소가 어떤 식으로 나타나는지, 두 국가 해법은 왜 대안이 될 수 없는지, 이스라엘에 대한 비판을 반유대주의로 모는 것에 대해 어떻게 하면 효과적으로 반박할 수 있을지에 대한 질문 등이 있었습니다. 이에 대한 발제자들 답변과, 토론회에 참가한 팔레스타인 학생들의 코멘트는 토론을 더욱 풍성하게 해주었습니다. ☺️

이번 토론회에는 #서울대학교 아시아언어문명학부 Siavash Saffari 교수님도 참가해 주셨는데요. 교수님은 “지금 당장 휴전할 것을 촉구해야 합니다. 일시적 전투 중단이 아니라 즉각적, 항구적 휴전을 요구해야 합니다.”라고 하면서도 “휴전으로 문제가 끝나는 것은 아니”라고 강조했습니다. Saffari 교수님은 문화, 학술, 군사, 직장 등 모든 영역에서 BDS를 실천하고 팔레스타인에 대해 끊임없이 공부하고 토론하자고 말씀하셨습니다. 팔레스타인 해방을 위한 투쟁을 “마라톤”에 비유하면서 긴 호흡을 갖고 활동을 이어나가라는 당부도 해주셨습니다.

토론회가 끝난 후 참가자들은 팔레스타인 국기와 팻말을 들고 기념 사진을 촬영했습니다. 이번주 토요일(11월 25일) 오후 2시에 열리는 팔레스타인 연대 집회에서, 또 학내에서 진행될 ‘주한 이스라엘 대사관 추방 캠페인’에서 다시 만날 것을 다짐했습니다. ✊️✊️

세계 곳곳에서 팔레스타인에 연대하는 시위가 벌어지고 있습니다. 한국에서 첫발을 내딛은 팔레스타인 연대 운동이 더욱 성장할 수 있도록 더 많은 청년·학생들이 함께 하기를 기대하겠습니다!

On Monday, November 20th, we had a meeting on “Why the Israeli Embassy Must Be Expelled from Korea” at Seoul National University(SNU). 🇵🇸 Many Koreans and foreigners participated to show solidarity for Palestine and the discussion was very informative.
Palestinian student Seema gave a presentation on the history of Palestinian oppression, the resistance today, and what we can do in Korea. And Bak Irang, a Middle East expert, emphasized that calling for the expulsion of the Israeli embassy can be an effective way to expose the nature of the Zionist state Israel. We were grateful to our professional interpreter, Kyungnok Chun, for the Korean-English translation.
The floor discussion included questions about what ethnic cleansing of Palestinians looks like, why the two-state solution cannot be an alternative, and how to effectively refute the framing of criticism of Israel as anti-Semitism. The presenters’ answers to these questions, as well as comments from Palestinian students who participated in the discussion, enriched the discussion. ☺️
Dr. Siavash Saffari, Associate Professor of Department of Asian Languages and Civilizations at SNU, also contributed to the discussion. “We need to call for a ceasefire now, not a humanitarian pause, an immediate and lasting ceasefire,” he said, but also pointed out that “a ceasefire is not the end of the issue.” Dr. Saffari called for BDS in all spheres – cultural, academic, military, and workplace – and urged us to educate ourselves and keep talking about Palestine. He said “the struggle for Palestine is like a marathon” and emphasized the importance of taking long breaths and sustaining the actions.
At the end of the discussion participants took pictures, holding Palestinian flags and signs, and vowed to meet again this Saturday (November 25) 2 p.m. at the rally in support of Palestine and at on-campus campaigns to expel the Israeli embassy. ✊️✊️
