고려대학교 "주한 이스라엘 대사관은 왜 추방돼야 하는가" 토론회

11월 16일 목요일, 고려대에서 “주한 이스라엘 대사관은 왜 추방돼야 하는가” 토론회가 성공적으로 열렸습니다!🇵🇸

팔레스타인 학생과 중동 전문가를 초청해 생생한 이야기를 듣고, 열띤 토론이 오가는 기회였습니다.

이 토론회는 학교 안팎으로 팔레스타인 연대 활동을 하고 있는 노동자연대 청년학생그룹(@ws.youthstu) 고려대 회원들이 준비한 자리입니다.💚🩷

40여 명의 내국인, 외국인 학생들로 장내가 뜨거웠습니다.🔥 팔레스타인에 연대의 마음을 가지고 참가해주신 모든 분들께 감사의 인사를 드립니다!🍉

룰라 님은 팔레스타인 억압의 역사와 현재 상황을 생생하게 전해 주셨습니다. 75년 간 벌어진 이스라엘의 팔레스타인 ‘지워내기’라는 맥락 없이 현재 상황을 이해할 수 없다는 점을 분명하게 짚어 주셨습니다.
미국과 서방 언론은 온갖 거짓을 퍼뜨리며 현재 상황을 ‘테러 집단 하마스를 소탕하는 이스라엘의 자기 방어‘라고 오도합니다. 한국의 주류 언론도 이런 선전을 퍼나르며 동조하고 있습니다.
이런 상황에서 우리는 진실을 알리고, 저항에 연대하는 목소리를 모아내는 것이 중요하다고 강조하셨습니다.

박이랑 님은 팔레스타인 연대 운동을 성장시키기 위해 한국에서 이스라엘 대사관 추방을 요구하며 초점을 만들어가자고 강조했습니다.
이스라엘은 시작부터 시오니즘과 제국주의로 시작된 특수한 국가입니다. 이스라엘 대사관은 단순한 행정 처리 기구가 아닌, 이런 이스라엘의 이해관계를 대변해 한국과의 활발한 교류를 도모하는 곳입니다.
따라서 한국에 있는 이스라엘 대사관에 반대하는 운동은 팔레스타인의 독립 요구를 한국에서 표현하는 하나의 초점이 될 수 있습니다.

청중 토론에서도 여러 분들의 활발한 질문과 주장 덕분에 토론회가 풍성했습니다.
특히 한국에서 팔레스타인 연대 운동을 키울 수 있을 방안에 대한 고민, 이스라엘 대사관 추방(Sanction) 등을 비롯한 세계적 팔레스타인 연대 운동 BDS를 한국에서 어떻게 구현해나갈지, 두 국가 방안을 어떻게 봐야할지 등의 질문과 고민이 있었습니다.
또, 미국에 대한 도전 없이는 이스라엘에 도전할 수 없다, 인종차별 국가에 대한 반대가 인종차별이라는 주장에 반대한다 등의 주장이 있었습니다.

발제자들은 마무리하며 이스라엘 국가를 인정하고 팔레스타인 해방을 이뤄낼 수 없다고 다시 한 번 강조했습니다.
그리고 한국의 팔레스타인 연대 운동의 규모와 역사가 아직 유럽과 중동과 같진 않지만, 한국의 연대 운동도 성장하고 있는 상황이라는 점도 말했습니다. 잔혹한 이스라엘 국가를 폭로하고 주한 이스라엘 대사관 추방 요구 등 이스라엘 국가를 인정할 수 없다는 행동을 건설해나가며 팔레스타인의 정당한 투쟁을 더 알려나가자고 강조했습니다.

토론회 이후에는 함께 “Free Free Palestine” 구호를 외치며 기념 사진을 촬영해 힘찬 연대의 마음을 보냈습니다.

팔레스타인 연대는 이제 첫발을 내디뎠습니다! 우리가 모이면 변화를 만들 수 있습니다. 한국에 사는 청년 학생들도 함께 합시다!

On Thursday, November 16, open forum on “Why the Israeli Embassy in Korea Should Be Expelled” has successfully held in KU campus.

We invited Palestinian student and Middle East expert to share their lively stories and participants engaged in an active discussion.

The debate was organized by KU members of the Workers’ Solidarity Youth Student Group (@ws.youthstu), who are engaged in Palestinian solidarity activities on and off campus.💚🩷

The room was packed with about 40 Korean and foreign students.🔥 We would like to thank everyone who participated in solidarity with Palestine!

Special thanks to Palestinian international students Rula (@8ulaa) and Irang Bak (@irang_jan.25) for their speach, and to professional interpreter Kyungrok Chun.

Rula brought the history of Palestinian oppression and the current situation vividly. She made it clear that the current situation cannot be understood without the context of Israel’s 75-year “erasure” of Palestine. The American and Western media spreads all kinds of lies and misrepresents the current situation as ‘Israel’s self-defense against the terrorist group Hamas’. The mainstream media in South Korea is also spreading this propaganda. In this situation, the importance of spreading the truth and gathering voices in solidarity with the resistance is emphasized.

Irang Park stressed the need to create a focal point by demanding the expulsion of the Israeli embassy from South Korea in order to grow the Palestinian solidarity movement. Israel is an extraordinary country that has been tied to Zionism and imperialism since its inception. The Israeli embassy is not just an administrative body, but a place where Israeli interests are represented and promoting an active engagement with South Korea. Therefore, the movement against the Israeli embassy in Korea can be a focal point for expressing the demand for Palestinian independence in South Korea.

Many lively questions and arguments in the floor discussion also enriched the forum.

In particular, there were questions and concerns about how to grow the Palestinian solidarity movement in Korea, how to implement the global Palestinian solidarity movement BDS in Korea, including sanctioning the Israeli embassy, and how to look at the two-state solution. There were also arguments such as that Israel cannot be challenged without challenging the United States, and that opposition to a racist state is not a racism.

In closing, the speakers reiterated that it is impossible to recognize the state of Israel and achieve the liberation of Palestine. They also noted that the solidarity movement for Palestine in South Korea is growing, although the size and history of it is not yet the same with the movements in Europe and the Middle East. It is highlighted that we need to debunk the brutal Israeli state and build actions to show that we cannot recognize the state of Israel, such as demanding the expulsion of the Israeli embassy in Korea, and make the rightful struggle of Palestine more known.

After the discussion, we chanted the slogun “Free Free Palestine” together and took a commemorative photo to show our solidarity.
